Kindergartener ends up at the wrong school without anyone noticing

A kindergarten girl got on the wrong school bus and ended up at a different school in New York on Wednesday.

According to The Daily Caller, Yates Magnet Elementary School received Janeya Nevins after she arrived and said she was a new student to the school. Yates was actually expecting a new student, so when Nevins arrived, they didn’t suspect anything suspicious.

They then asked if her name was that of the new student’s, and she didn’t object. She even went as far as to write her pseudo-name on all her assignments.

Nevins’ mother was contacted later during the school day to inform her that her daughter never arrived at school. She called the police who immiedately launched an investigation, reported the Times Union.

The matter was eventually resolved as the mistake was corrected and the child was returned. Superintendent Larry Spring took responsibility for the mixup and issued an apology and a proposal for a new system to make sure all children are safe and where they need to be.

“We will be taking a close look at our school intake process and develop a system to ensure the identification of any new students as they enter the schools.”
