Kelly Rowland leaves record label and begins her new album

The former member of Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland, is constantly trying to keep things fresh.

On March 26, the singer announced the newest way she was shaking things up was that she had left her record label, Universal, and is now going to be working on a new album.

According to Rap Up, Rowland returned to the studio as recently as last week in order to follow up with last year’s Talk a Good Game.

In her interview with HuffPost Live, where Rowland announced her departure from Universal, she also discussed the progress and energy for the upcoming work she’s done.

“It’s been wonderful so far, a fresh new spin on everything, with writers, producers, just being inspired, just creativity,” Rowland said.
“Fresh” and “new” were two reasons as to why she decided to leave from Universal. She has left the need to change things up. However, Rowland has said that there were no issues between her and the record label for her departure.

“I feel like right now, I just needed something new and I’ve earned the right to make my own choices and make my own decisions,” Rowland told HuffPost Live about her reason for leaving Universal after releasing two albums with them. “I wish them well, they wish me well. No hard feelings, I just needed a fresh, new start.”

While, Rowland still hasn’t determined what she wants her next move to be, she is simply enjoying the creative freedom of not having a label. She has said that, “there are different offers on the table,” but she’s enjoying the time in the studio.

In regard to her new music, she’s explained that she’s drawing a lot of inspiration from other veteran female vocalists. One of her main inspirations, she shared, is Diana Ross.

“I’ve been inspired by the queens that have gone before us,” Rowland shared, “incredibly strong women who aren’t afraid to take risks and just be innovative.”
