GWAR’s lead singer Dave Brockie has died at age 50. He was found dead by his roommate on Sunday evening.
Dave Brockie was known to his fans by Oderus Urungus. Brockie was originally a guitarist for the band when it started in the mid-80s.
According to Digital Spy, ex-GWAR bassist Mike Bishop told Richmond's Style Weekly, "Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known. He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art."
A spokesperson from the Richmond Police Department did say that there is no foul play suspected in the musician’s death. Guitarist Cory Smoot was found dead on a bus, in 2011.
GWAR performs in costume and were known to spew fake blood at their fans in the audience. They are described as a thrash metal band. They feature enactments of taboo themes. Their albums include Carnival of Chaos, Beyond Hell, Bloody Pit of Horror, and Battle Maximus. The band was originally formed in Richmond, Virginia.
