Google Barge moves from the San Francisco Bay

The Google Barge moved from its home in San Francisco to its California delta.

According to the Associated Press, Port of Stockton Director Richard Aschieris, "It was an exciting morning for us. This doesn't happen every day. In fact I would probably say this is, from a maritime point of view, the highest visibility vessel we may have ever hosted."

The vessel will remain in Stockton, which is located 80 miles east of San Francisco on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River delta. The barge will be in Stockton for six months. Some were guessing if the barge was to become a party boat or a store dedicated to Google products. Google says that from the barge, Google will create a place for interactive technology.

The barge is in the right place for constructing a new interactive center or roaming data center. Lack of appropriate permits prevented Google from keeping its four-story vessel made of recycled shipping containers in Treasure Island. A formal investigation about the barge started in December, according to Reuters. Construction was halted on the barge last year.
