DJ Steve Angello plans to release songs on Google Play

Google Play has some admirers in the music industry. International DJ Steve Angello has made the decision to make his label’s entire catalog available on Google Play.

According to the Associated Press, DJ Steve Angello said this week, "I don't think that music should always be for free, but I think if there's stuff that can be done the way we've done it now, I think labels should give it a try."

Angello’s Size Records will release more than 170 songs for free on Google Play. The campaign “(hash)DECADE” begins on Friday. The songs will be added slowly and will be concluded during Miami Music Week at the end of the month.

De la Soul made a similar move, releasing seven albums worth of material for free on their website. Beyonce also released her album on iTunes last year. Angello believes more artists will release music for free. It provides a forum for artists and fans to communicate. It also provides a great advertising tool and a means to create a buzz about new projects.

In the meantime, Angello is working on a new album due out in two weeks.
