'Dancing with the Stars' introduces 'The Switch Up' for upcoming season

Dancing With the Stars seems to be making a lot of changes for this upcoming season. With this being the 18th season of the hit show, they decided it was time to switch things up-literally.

It all started when ABC decided to fire the 28 person band that provided the show with live music for each show and instead begin to use recorded music to capture the sounds of today’s music. Then, co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet was replaced with new co-host, Erin Andrews, who competed on season 10 of DWTS. Yesterday, the cast was revealed for this upcoming season and it seems some people aren’t very pleased with some of the stars.

In order to make this new season even more exciting, the show is introducing “The Switch Up.” E! News reports that this will allow viewers the chance to vote and change the pairings of celebrities and professional dancers. So if you’re not happy with the star who each dancer has been originally paired up with, you can vote to switch it up!

ABC is saying that the partner changes will take place at some “point in the season.” Professional dancer, and fan favorite, Derek Hough, revealed that he was the one who came up with the idea. He revealed to E!, “What’s funny is that I suggested that, the Switch Up thing, years ago, and they were like, ‘Oh, I don’t know if it would work out.’ It’s going to be interesting to watch!”

Dancer Cheryl Burke then said that it would probably be happening week three and that “It’s good because you’ve already build that foundation…and it’ll be interesting to see if your celebrity improves or if he just stays the same.”

Other dancers like Karina Smirnoff, Mark Ballas and Valentin Chmerkovskiy aren’t very happy with this new twist. Apparently, they don’t like the idea at all and believe it will be a cruel challenge. Even some of the stars think it’ll be a crazy change.

The new season will be full of some new twists and changes and only time will tell if they’ll be successful. While this “switch up” will give fans the opportunity to interact in a fun way, it seems its going to be quite the challenge for the dancers and their partners. What are your thoughts on this new twist for the upcoming season?
