Boston street signs installed with wrong info causes confusion

A city government mistake has left signs all over the town in Massachusetts giving drivers the wrong information.

One example of the government screw up is the sign on Commonwealth Avenue which has a new 2A West sign with an arrow pointing left and a nearby older 2A West sign with an arrow pointing to the right.

According to Yahoo! News, the discovery of this sign has led to the discovery of numerous other problems with signs among Massacusetts Avenue in Boston. Each intersection along the road reads a new 2A sign that directs drivers in the wrong direction.

Daily Times notes that the signs were a portion of a city project totaling in at $5.6. The street signs included an installation of 728 new signs and costed about $20,000.

“It seems like there was a breakdown in communication between the consultant hired by the city of Boston, the city itself and MassDOT," said Tom Tinlin, head of the installation project in Boston.

Although Mayor of Boston, Marty Walsh was not in office at the time that the signs with wrong information were installed around the city, he is highly concerned about the error and why it took so long to be brought to the city's attention.

“This was, from what I understand, an outside contractor and I haven’t spoken to them myself directly. But I’m going to make sure that they’re spoken to if they want to continue to work in the city of Boston," said Mayor Walsh.
