Beyonce encourages young girls to ‘Ban Bossy’

Beyonce has joined with Sheryl Sandberg, the Facebook COO, to encourage leadership and ban the word, “bossy.”

The campaign is part of a larger statement encouraging girls to become leaders. It was spearheaded by Sheryl Sandberg, the Facebook COO. The video clip asks people to throw away the work “bossy,” as it can have a negative value.

In a video clip, Beyonce encourages listeners to “be brave, be you.” They are uplifting from the popular singer, who recently performed at a concert in Birmingham. Her tour will continue until March 27.

Sandberg’s campaign includes a dedicated website that includes quotes from Beyonce, Jane Lynch, and other leaders. Sandberg told Mashable, "We need to recognize the many ways we systematically discourage leadership in girls from a young age — and instead, we need to encourage them. So the next time you have the urge to call your little girl bossy? Take a deep breath and praise her leadership skills instead."

The video was put together by Sandberg’s Lean In Foundation in partnership with Lifetime TV, according to Entertainment Weekly.
