In the 2007 disappearance case of Madison McCann, British authorities are searching for a man who may be linked to 12 other crimes that took place in Portuguese holiday resorts.
Police say that these crimes were committed between 2004 and 2006, where a man broke into rooms where British families were staying. Four girls, aged between seven and 10, were sexually assaulted.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood has 30 people who are classified as “persons of interest” and will be looking through 530 sex offenders whose whereabouts are not known, according to Brisbane Times.
Former Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley told ABC in an interview that, "I think if this similar series of crimes had occurred in the UK and that Madeleine had disappeared in the UK, the police would have made the link almost immediately.”
The odds that McCann, who disappeared days before her fourth birthday, is still alive is very slim, however her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, have campaigned for years to find her. Redwood said that the potential that McCann never left the room alive is there, however it’s important to cover all of the options.
