‘Veronica Mars’ brings in big numbers at the box office

The popular movie, Veronica Mars had an excellent first weekend at the box office, bringing in $2 million at the theaters.

Executives took an interesting strategy, simultaneously releasing the movie at the movie theaters on video demand and services like Amazon and iTunes. According to E!, Jeff Goldstein, executive vice president of theatrical distribution at Warner Bros., told Entertainment Weekly, "Our result starting with our Thursday fan events was $260K. You add that together with our weekend for a total of $2 million from 291 theaters? That's pretty significant."

The digital release has frustrated fans who donated to the Kickstarter campaign used to fund the movie. Warner Bros has been handing out refunds to frustrated fans, who choose not steam the movie by utilizing Flixster or Ultraviolet.

These difficulties, notwithstanding, creator Rob Thomas is already looking ahead to the possibility of a sequel. The popular film was based on a television show called Veronica Mars which showed on the small screen from 2004-2007.
