Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan spoke with The Evening Standard about taking on his new role as Christian Grey and why he started by modeling.
Dornan admitted that he wasn’t passionate about modeling. He said he had never felt fully satisfied simply “standing there” while a photographer capture the pictures that there needed. However, it never caused him to stop modeling, as Dornan has been in a number of modeling campaigns.
“It’s never given me a thrill, [but] it would take a very foolish man to turn down the stuff that was offered to me,” Dornan explained to The Evening Standard. “You’re in your twenties, and people are going to give you a silly amount of money to lean against a wall with your head down. F—k me, you’ve got to do it.”
Dornan began acting on BBC2’s series The Fall before taking on the role as Christian Grey. He took on a six hour audition in order to get the role.
“I wasn’t who people were thinking of for the part,” Dornan said. “Right from the start the writer had this underlying belief that I was the guy, and I’m massively thankful to him for that.”
While fans may not have been fully appreciative as his role in The Fall his accepted role as Christian Grey is sure to bring a bigger fan base. However, while fans may be graciously accepting Dornan’s lead role and anticipating the film, not everyone was so happy about his decision.
“A friend of mine said, ‘I heard about Fifty Shades. Congratulations on that role. That’s going to be disgusting. I won’t watch it,” Dornan said.
His wife, Amelia Warner, is very supportive of Dornan’s taking on Christian Grey, according to E! News.
Perhaps it’s because Dornan would describe himself very differently from the fictional Christian Grey. Dornan said that he is pretty romantic when it comes to his love life.
“I don’t know what the template is or what the parameters are,” Dornan said. “But I think I’m pretty decent at all that kind of stuff.”
