Talk show host Wendy Williams has announced her plans to donate some of her personal items to the Smithsonian's television collection.
Wendy Williams, host of The Wendy Williams Show , announced today that she will be giving a number of personal items, including a wig, pink wig head, and a glittery microphone to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, reports USA Today . The museum began collecting props and personal items from daytime television in 2013. Dwight Blocker Bowers, who serves as curator of the museum's Division of Culture and the Arts, spoke about Wendy Williams' donation by saying that the museum "welcomes the opportunity to add objects to the national collections that reflect her career as both a broadcast force and an entrepreneur."
Wendy Williams spoke to NY Daily News about her decision to donate her items. She said, "“I’m so proud to host this messy little talk show and I'm thrilled to bits that one of America’s most revered institutions — that I went to as a child! — deems me worthy enough to preserve this little bit of history for everyone to share.” Williams' items join several famous pop-culture props, such as Dorothy's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz and the Kermit the Frog puppet.
Williams is the first talk show host to donate her items.
