Russian pop duo t.A.T.u opens up Sochi Winter Olympics

Russian pop duo, t.A.T.u, is making a comeback by opening the Olympics at Sochi.

The duo features singers Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova. The group is known for their 2003 hit song, “Not Gonna Get Us.”

However, there is a twist to the show; the Russian Olympic team will walk into the group’s 2003 hit song but during their warm-up show. It is ironic that they are the performers of choice because Russia is known for their anti-gay laws. The group has explored lesbian and gay topics though.

In 2003, the group made a music video for their single "All The Things She Said", where in the video, both singers paly lovers. They were kissing in the rain during the video. The lyrics and message from the song also go into the topics of homosexuality and bisexuality.

As earlier reported by Huffington Post, the ceremony will have the “dynamic” element due to the chosen performers for this year. Much attention will be drawn to the “pseudo-lesbian” pop duo. There is an outrage currently because Russia has a law banning gay “propaganda” to minors.

Tune into the Sochi Winter Olympics, The opening ceremony took place today at 11 a.m.
