Discussion regarding tubes of toothpaste continue today in Moscow. Yesterday, officials discussed awareness regarding tubes of toothpaste and other materials carried on airplanes.
Russian deputy prime minister Dmitry Kozak told the Associated Press, "I believe that warnings about Sochi, about Russia were superfluous, and the threat levels in Sochi are just like they are in Boston or London. I would like to reiterate that security in Sochi will be no worse than in New York, London, Washington or Boston."
Discussions focused on tubes of toothpaste. According to Reuters, a senior U.S. security official in Washington issued a warning.
Today, some air travelers heading to the Sochi Olympics through Moscow have brought toothpaste and other toiletries past security checkpoints without any problems. There is still a ban on liquids in carry on luggage.
The no-liquids rule applies to passengers departing from a Russian airport. According to Russian Transport Ministry spokeswoman Nataliya Nesterova, it was up to airports to make sure it is enforced.
The Opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics will be tomorrow, Feb. 7.
