For the first time online, footage for rare Beatles performances have gone online in anticipation of their 50th anniversary of coming to America.
Rolling Stone dug in the archives and brought us snippets of footage from The Beatles playing “I Want to Hold Your Hand” from the historic Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, as well as “This Boy” from a taping in Miami on February 16. There is also footage of The Beatles performing “Twist and Shout” at their first ever U.S. show at the Washington Coliseum in Washington D.C. on February 11.
The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles marks the anniversary of The Beatles American debut on The Ed Sullivan show, which is set to air exactly 50 years to the date and time on CBS. The Late Show with David Letterman, which is taped at the historic Ed Sullivan Theater, will feature the surviving members of The Fab Four, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, this week on the show. Musical guests will include Sting, Broken Bells, and Lenny Kravitz performing their favorite Beatles tunes.
