Pur Sang Bistro Grill

The Pur Sang Bistro Grill is a beautiful restaurant at the resort town of Lac Beauport in Quebec. Owned and operated by restaurateur Stéphane D'Anjou and chef Christian Lemelin of TOAST! fame, the Pur Sang is an exquisite dining experience in a natural paradise.

It has an upscale decor in black and red, yet it's a great place to take the whole family. The staff were very warm and the children's menu had all the favorites to keep the kids happy while mom and dad can sample the bistro's offerings.

We started off with an appetizer of grilled octopus. Octopus is easy to screw up resulting in a chewy mess. The Pur Sang cooked it to perfection so it melted in our mouths.

The Pur Sang's menu offered lots of versatility when it came to the main course. In addition to picking a main item, you can select a vegetable and a starch to go with it.

The Pur Sang's star attraction is their 28-day aged Angus beef, so we had to go with that. Both the flank steak and the filet mignon were cooked to perfection and mouth-wateringly tender.

The side dishes may have played a supporting role but they were equally noteworthy. We sampled the risotto, homemade macaroni and cheese, grilled balsamic vegetables, and ragu of mushrooms. All the ingredients were fresh and seasoned to perfection.

For dessert we had the tart of the day (a peanut tart) and just had to try the creme brulee. Both were excellent. The dessert menu also had the Canadian favorite: gourmet beaver tails (think of a flat churro covered in chocolate).

The Pur Sang is a ways out of town but absolutely worth the drive if you're in Quebec. In the winter, kill two birds with one stone and visit the Ice Hotel found nearby.
