Watch out Broadway, Oprah's coming for you! Oprah Winfrey is in talks to make her Broadway debut alongside Audra MacDonald in a revival of the Pulitzer-winning play 'night, Mother.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the role will be Winfrey's first in a Broadway production. Although many know her as one of the best talk show hosts to ever appear on television screens, Winfrey has a respectable career in acting as well. She landed critical acclaim and a SAG nomination for her role in Lee Daniels' The Butler, which was her first movie role since Beloved in 1998.
The New York Times discloses that Winfrey, along with producer Scott Sanders, are currently working together to revive The Color Purple for Broadway. Winfrey and Sanders previously produced the original The Color Purple production on Broadway back in 2005. However, the new version would be a stripped-down production that Tony winner John Doyle directed to much acclaim in London last summer. The play is being designed to open for the 2015-16 Broadway season.
