Ohio State self-reports NCAA violation involving Tim Tebow

Ohio State's football team self-reported a violation that involved head coach Urban Meyer allowing former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow to talk to a recruit in March 2013. They talked for eight seconds. Tebow played under Meyer when he won a national championship at the University of Florida.

Linebacker Clifton Garrett, who was being recruited by the Buckeyes, talked to Meyer as permitted by the NCAA, according to USA Today. However, Meyer handed the phone to Tebow, who was eating lunch with Meyer at the time.

According to CBS Sports, Garrett asked Meyer if he could talk to Tebow to wish him good luck on the upcoming season. Meyer maintained that there was no recruiting advice that took place in Garrett's brief conversation with Tebow.

Meyer also insisted that Tebow has never spoken with any other Ohio State recruits. After this conversation took place, the Buckeyes stopped talking to Garrett for two weeks. He eventually committed to LSU in December 2013.

The Buckeyes will look to recover from their heartbreaking Orange Bowl loss to the Clemson Tigers as they compete for another Big Ten title and national championship.
