Musicians are benefiting from 'the One Direction effect'

Music artists are seeing huge spikes in sales for their music as they succumb to The One Direction Effect. Musicians such as Jason Derulo, Ed Sheeran and Little Mix have seen a rise in their music after being endorsed by british boy band, One Direction.

Derülo’s song, “Talk Dirty” was featured in a video posted on YouTube by the boys as a background song. The song skyrocketed with a 630% increase in viewership on the video sharing site back in November when 1D released the dance video, according to Billboard.

Little Mix’s affiliation with the band is technically only with one member of One Direction. Zayn Malik is currently engaged to Perrie Edwards, a member from the four-girl group. Though they were both products of the UK version of The X Factor, they have never ofically worked together.

Singer and songwriter, Ed Sheeran has also seen the aftermath of being part of The One Direction Affect. Sheeran wrote two songs for the band, including their single, “Little Things.” He went on to sell out three nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Even though they didn’t do all the work, It’s safe to say One Direction definielty helped further Ed Sheeran’s career in the states.

The US was first exposed to One Direction back in 2011 with the release of their first album, Up All Night. Since then, the 5-boy band took over the states and began dominating the charts. In November of 2013, 1D announced they will travel all over North America in their upcoming stadium tour, The Where We Are Tour starting Aug. 1. Tickets are on sale now.
