Phish bassist, Mike Gordon, has released a new solo album called Overstep.
According to the Associated Press, this is the fourth solo album from Gordon. Gordon also collaborated with Leo Kottke on in the past.
Music fans know Gordon as the bassist from Phish. Phish is an American rock band known for their improvisation. Their music sounds like rock, jazz, progressive rock, and bluegrass. This solo album is a departure from the longer improvisational style known to Phish fans.
According to Rolling Stone, Producer Paul Q. Kolderie said about Overstep, "It's not an album of long jams or anything like that. I like to be kind of song-y on albums." The new album includes tracks like “Ether” and “Yarmouth Road.”
The album was written on weekend retreats in New England. The songs were sometimes inspired by paintings. Gordon and Guitarist Scott Murawski wrote the tracks while traveling in the Northeast. Gordon’s band on the record includes Scott Murawski (guitar), Craig Myers (percussion), Tom Cleary (keyboards) and Todd Isler (drums).
Overstep is due out Feb. 25 from Megaplum/ATO Records.
