John Oliver's HBO show 'Last Week Tonight' to premiere in April

HBO will premier British comedian John Oliver's show, Last Week Tonight on April 27th.

Last Week Tonight will be a satirical show in the same vein as Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and will cover news, politics, and current events, reports The New York Post . Oliver jumped into the spotlight by appearing as a correspondent and writer on The Daily Show and then acting as a guest host last summer while Stewart was directing a film. Oliver earned three Emmy Awards as part of the writing team for The Daily Show .
Oliver began doing stand-up comedy in the United Kingdom before being tapped to work on The Daily Show . He was then seen in a Comedy Central special called John Oliver: Terrifying Times before being granted his own series on Comedy Central titled John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show which featured Oliver and up-and-coming comedians.

USA Today reports that the show will fill the 11:00-11:30 PM Sunday time slot on HBO, and has been granted a 24 episode run for its first season.
