Actor Gary Sinise is gearing up for the Daytona 500. This year, he will play a special role, serving as the honorary starter for the race.
Sinise will be at the starting line waving the green flag to announce the beginning of “The Great American Race.” Race Day is Sunday, Feb. 23, according to Associated Press.
Sinise is best known as a film actor. Sinise was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in Forest Gump. He also won a Golden Glove for Best Performance for Truman. His other popular films include The Green Mile, Snake Eyes, and Reindeer Games. His has appeared on the small screen in CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, and the TV movie, Path to War.
Sinise's Foundation, the Gary Sinise Foundation, honors defenders, veterans, first responders and their families. They work on many projects including building custom smart homes for severely wounded veterans.
According to Fox, live coverage of the DAYTONA 500 can be seen on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1PM.
