Foster The People released a video for their new single “Coming of Age” from their highly anticipated sophomore album Supermodel.
The video follows a boxer, from a skinny kid getting picked on in the schoolyard to his latest bout in the ring, with various scenes of his growing up that led to his current life. An 80’s inspired feel, down to the bright colored jackets and grainy film look, “Coming of Age” fills the soundtrack to the boxer’s life that unfolds in front of us.
The song is a laid back, pop-ballad, that could have really been on a soundtrack to a John Hughes film. With lyrics And when my fear pulls me out to sea/And the stars are hidden by my pride and my enemies/I seem to hurt the people that care the most/Just like an animal I protect my pride and flashes of the boxer getting picked on at school and training for his big bout solidify the .theme of a short movie.
Foster The People’s smash debut Torches included the mega hit “Pumped Up Kids”, and although it would be close to impossible for them to create the same kind of song, if “Coming of Age” is any indication of the rest of the album, they are sure to have success. Supermodel is scheduled for release on March 14.
