DreamWorks CEO discusses a possible fifth 'Shrek' movie

Perhaps one of DreamWorks Animation’s most popular franchises has been the successful Shrek series. Starting all the way back in 2001, the first Shrek film was a CGI masterpiece, with animation that many hadn’t seen on the big screen before. The most recent film of the franchise, Shrek Forever After was released in 2010 and was supposed to be the final installment of the series. However, it was revealed that there might be a fifth Shrek movie in the making.
Bleeding Cool stated that DreamWorks CEO, Jeffrey Katzenberg , had hinted at the return of Shrek. “We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest. But I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he,” said Katzenberg.
Variety reported that overall, the Shrek films have grossed $2.9 billion worldwide over the span of the nine years it took for the films to come out. That doesn’t include the money from the stage production musical, video games or spin-offs that DreamWorks raked in from the franchises success.
With Shrek Forever After not doing as well in the box offices, compared to the other three films, it will be interesting to see how the fifth film does and if the writers have run out of ideas yet. Apparently not if they are making a fifth movie however.
