Five inductees have been chosen for the 2014 Songwriters Hall of Fame this year. Ray Davies, Donovan, Jim Weatherly, Graham Gouldman, and Mark James have made it into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Singer-songwriter Donovan’s hits include “Sunshine Superman,” “Mellow Yellow,” and “Atlantis.” This popular European artist has collaborated with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ronnie Wood, and Jeff Beck. James Weatherly was known for his song, “Midnight Train to Georgia.” His songs were sung by Brenda Lee, Lynn Anderson, and Gladys Knight and the Pips. Graham Gouldman released a recording of the Buddy Holly song “Look at Me.” Ray Davies is best known as the lead singer of the band, The Kinks. Famous songs from his band include “Destroyer,” “Come Dancing,” and “Do It Again.”
Several famous artists did not make it into the Hall of Fame this year, including John Mellencamp, Nile Rodgers, and Sade, according to the Associated Press. After the nominations, eligible voters had until Dec. 16th to choose this year’s inductees, according to Rolling Stone.
The 45th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame gala will be held on June 12 in New York City.
