Legendary musician David Bowie won Best Male Artist of the Year at the BRIT Awards yesterday.
Bowie, 67, did not attend the awards, but sent a speech that was read by model Kate Moss. According to the Associated Press, presenter Noel Gallagher joked that Bowie sent Kate Moss as his “representative on Earth.” Dressed in one of Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust outfits from the 1970s, Moss read a speech by Bowie, explaining that he was “completely delighted” to receive the award.
Bowie had an extraordinary year, gaining praise for his new album, The Next Day. It had been about a decade since Bowie’s previous album, Reality, released in 2003. Bowie’s first album was David Bowie in 1967. According to the The Hollywood Reporter, Bowie became the oldest winner of a BRIT Award in history.
Other winners at the BRIT Awards included the English rock band, Arctic Monkeys, for album of the year for AM. Bastille won for British breakthrough act. American artists also were recognized. Bruno Mars won for international male solo artist for the year. Beyonce and Katy Perry made a splash at the ceremony.
