Best moments from 'The Walking Dead': Season 4, Episode 9, 'After'

Last night’s newest episode of The Walking Dead left fans pleased, as the mid-season premiere delivered in terms of supplying heaping amounts of action, zombies and chocolate pudding. Season four has been quite an adrenaline-inducing season so far. When the series went on hiatus in early December, fans were disappointed to have to wait over two months to see what would happen next, as the series creators left viewers with quite the cliff hanger after the prison was taken over by the Governor.
The episode from last night featured characters Rick, Carl and Michonne and the action and drama was present through out. Here are some of the best moments from The Walking Dead episode, “After.”

[new page=Michonne’s flashback]

The episode focused heavily on the character, Michonne, the katana wielding warrior. Not much is too known about her character other than her hatred for the now deceased Governor and her mind-blowing ability at wielding a sword. While her character is wandering through a horde of zombies in search of shelter or more survivors, viewers witness Michonne thinking about her past in a flashback that reveals quite a bit about her. In the flashback Michonne is in a kitchen preparing some food for two well-dressed men. One of the men is her lover (it is not revealed if it is her husband) and the other man appears to be a friend. Michonne then goes into another room and comes back carrying a baby in her arms. Towards the end of the flashback, the scene turns into a terrifying nightmarish vision, as her lover and friend then appear with no arms and her baby suddenly disappears out of her arms. Not only is the flashback/nightmare a rare insight into the character of Michonne but it also ties into the theme of the show that revolves around loss and tragedy.

[new page= Carl loses it]

Once Carl and Rick finally have found shelter, Rick falls into some sort of a coma from being so badly injured from the raid in the prison and his duel with the Governor. Carl, who has been furious the entire time at Rick for losing his baby sister, ends up screaming at his unconscious father, claiming he doesn’t need his protection anymore. He also accuses his father of not being able to protect the group of survivors, his sister Judith or his mother. He also blames Rick for the reason why the Governor destroyed their prison. "I still know how to survive, lucky for us. I don't need you anymore," yells Carl. "I'd be fine if you died.” Lucky for Rick, he didn’t hear Carl’s outburst. It seems Carl is entering a stage of teen angst, especially since most of his childhood was lost due to the zombie apocalypse. Carl wants to be older than he actually is and towards the end of the episode he realizes he was wrong and really does need his father.

[new page=Michonne has moves]
In this episode, Michonne is constantly surrounded by a horde of undead walkers. She gets a chance to show off her sword wielding skills during one scene where she literally takes down a pack of zombies in under two minutes. Her beautiful white katana sword decapitates the zombies one by one as Michonne seems to be almost doing a smooth dance as she beheads them all. This woman is truly someone to look up to, and would be needed on anyone’s team in the zombie apocalypse.

[new page=chocolate pudding]

While Carl is off on his own in an act of rebellion during Rick’s unconsciousness, Carl ends up in a home in search for more supplies. At the top of a cabinet he sees a 112 ounce can of chocolate pudding. Perhaps the best moment of the episode, is an image of Carl sitting on a rooftop eating heaping spoonfulls of pudding right out of the can. Not only is the image alone hilarious, it is also comedic because moments before Carl almost lost his life when he dueled a zombie in the home just moments before, barely escaping with his life. That pudding was definitely a victory pudding.
