So far the mid-season premiere of AMC’s hit show, The Walking Dead has been adrenaline pumping and zombie filled. In the eleventh episode of season four, ‘Claimed,’ the story line jumps back to Carl, Rick and Michonne’s group as well as picks up where last week’s episode left off when Glenn and Tara are rescued by the newly introduced character, Abraham Ford.
With all of the characters in separate locations, many different story lines have been starting due to the displacement of the group. It is interesting to see the dynamics and interactions of the characters when they are in tinier more close-knit groups. This creates for interesting and revealing moments each episode so far during the second half of season four. Here are the best moments from last night’s episode of The Walking Dead ‘Claimed.’

[new page=Crazy Cheese]
While Michonne and Carl are out on a mission to find more supplies, Michonne surprises Carl with a bottle of Crazy Cheese that she had found. In an effort to make a depressed Carl happy, she offers him the first shot of cheese from the can. He declines, so Michonne then proceeds to spray the cheese all in her mouth and starts making some funny faces to go along with the comedic attempt at cheering up Carl. In a world that is plagued with walking dead, it was light hearted and funny to watch the two serious characters play with a can of cheese.
[new page=Michonne’s son]
After the Crazy Cheese scene, Michonne and Carl enter another house where Michonne reveals to Carl that she had a three-year-old son. Although viewers already knew of Michonne’s son from a flashback she had in the first episode of the mid-season premiere, none of the survivors in the group knew of Michonne’s past until this most recent episode. She reveals to Carl that her son died shortly after the apocalypse broke out. Carl assures her that her secret is safe with him, although she admits it isn’t really a secret, to which Carl again replies, “It’s still safe with me.” This scene shows an obvious budding, friendly relationship between the two.

Rick, Michonne and Carl finally have found safety and shelter in a home, however that is quickly taken away when a group of marauders take over the home while Rick is asleep and Carl and Michonne are away getting supplies. Rick awakens and quickly realizes the house has been infiltrated when he hears rambunctious, loud male voices downstairs. He quickly hides under the bed and witnesses two men fight each other over who gets to sleep in the big bed. One man chokes the other into unconsciousness. Rick quickly runs into the bathroom where he encounters another large marauder and chokes him to death in order to escape out the window. Overall the scene was fantastically filmed because not only did it create large amounts of anxiety, wondering whether or not Rick would be discovered, but the camera barely showed the faces of the marauders, just brief glimpses of them and let their actions and voices do all the speaking when it came to the personalities. It was amazing to see how even though there was little imagery a simple thing such as someone’s words or tone can reveal whether or not they are a good or bad guy.
[new page=Glenn takes control/Corn field zombies]
Last week viewers were left with the image of Abraham Ford, a well-known character from the comic books, rescue Tara and Glenn from a pack of zombies. During this week’s episode Glenn comes out of his unconsciousness to see that he is in a moving vehicle. To him this is very bad because he was on his way to trying to find his wife, Maggie, who he has been separated from. Glenn starts freaking out demanding to be let out of the vehicle, to which Abraham objects, because he wants Glenn and Tara to help him make it to Washington D.C. While Glenn and Abraham are fighting over whether or not to proceed further, a horde of zombies come out of the nearby cornfields and start to come in on the group. Mullet-sporting scientist of the group, Eugene, grabs a gun and starts blind firing into the zombie pack. Eugene ends up damaging the truck’s fuel tank so the group is left stranded on the side of the road. Glenn takes the lead and heads back the way the came, on a mission to go find Maggie. With no other hope of going further without another vehicle, Abraham, Eugene, Rosita and Tara form a new group and head back.
