60 more works found in German art hoarder's home

Sixty more paintings have been found in the Austrian apartment of Cornelius Gurlitt, including works by Monet, Manet, Picasso and Renoir.

Cornelius Gurlitt was found to be hoarding over 1,400 works of art during a routine tax inspection in March 2012, reports BBC News . The 2012 haul, which was found in Gurlitt's Munich apartment, was valued at over $1 billion dollars. BBC News also reports that hundreds of the confiscated paintings are thought to have been originally obtained from the Nazi's looting during World War II. Gurlitt's father was an art dealer. Representatives of Mr. Gurlitt announced the existence of the sixty additional paintings on Monday

The Wall Street Journal reports that Gurlitt, who is in his eighties and a recluse, has said that he would be willing to negotiate the return of any looted works to the families of the Nazi victims. Mr Gurlitt’s representatives have yet to announce Cornelius Gurlitt's decision on what to do with all off the works once they have been examined, cataloged, and valued by art experts. Hundreds of the works found in Gurlitt's homes had been lost for decades. Many will expect Gurlitt to donate or sell his expensive collection to a museum.
