Zoe Saldana is going to have a baby and it’s not going to be good. The Star Trek actress has been cast to star in NBC’s Rosemary’s Baby.
Greenlit last month by the network, the mini-series is a Lionsgate production that American Horror Story’s James Wong and Introducing Dorothy Dandridge Scott Abbott. Agnieszka Holland (Europa Europa, The Killing) has been hired to direct.
On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Saldana, who played Uhura in the last two Star Trek films and will appear in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, will play the title role, Rosemary. In Ira Levin’s iconic story, Rosemary is a young wife who moves into a mysterious apartment with her husband. She gets pregnant and becomes paranoid of her neighbors and her husband who have mysterious hopes for the baby.
The series will be filmed in Paris next month and will run four hours.
Of course, Rosemary’s Baby was famously made into a film by Roman Polanski in 1968, with Mia Farrow as Rosemary and John Cassavetes as her husband. There’s no word on who will play Cassavetes’ role or the role of the older neighbor, played brilliantly by Oscar winner Ruth Gordon.
"Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel," Quinn Taylor, Executive Vice President, Movies, Miniseries and International Co-Productions, NBC Entertainment, said in a statement, reports HitFix. “With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event miniseries is off to a great start.”
