Trailer Weekly 1/18 Edition: 'That Awkward Moment,' 'A Haunted House 2' and 'Bad Words'

This week’s edition of Trailer Weekly is devoted entirely to side-splitting comedy. That Awkward Moment is a film chronicling the confusing world of dating and asking the important often uncomfortable questions it involves. A Haunted House 2 is a sequel to the 2013 paranormal comedy hit that follows its predecessor’s star’s attempt to outrun the comedic spirits that seem to be following him no matter where he goes and Bad Words tells the story of a man who seeks to win the spelling bee that he lost as a child. All three movies have their own unique comedic flow from visually reflecting a time in everyone’s life that can be a milestone or a gripping disappointment to an unbalanced man hell-bent on winning a spelling bee he felt he was cheated out of. No matter what type of comedy you like best, one or all three of these will satisfy your humor quota.

That Awkward Moment is a motion picture that follows three best friends as they navigate the often bewildering path of love and the ultimate question, “Where is this relationship going?” Starring heartthrob Zac Efron and Fruitvale Station’s Michael B. Jordan, this rated R flick shows the guys’ attempts at navigating the world of romantic relationships, whether or not to throw in the towel or stick it out to see if a future with this person actually exists. The trailer shows the hilarious situations the guys get into with a wide variety of women and how they interact with each other as friends going through the same rite of passage. Conveying both the dates and the male bonding that follows makes this film different from past films of a similar nature, which could make it a film destined for comedic greatness. It opens in theaters on Friday, January 31.

A Haunted House 2 is the insane sequel to 2013’s hit horror comedy A Haunted House, which was also written by Marlon Wayans. Here, moviegoers see that Malcolm (Wayans) is still being tormented by spirits with a really twisted sense of humor, only this time he has to protect himself, his new girlfriend and her two kids from these perverted spooks. Like the original, this movie puts Wayans’ character into physically demanding positions and impossible scenarios all in his effort to rid his life of these bothersome, warped apparitions. Yet, one thing is for sure, fans of the original are sure to be in the front row when it opens in theaters on Friday, April 18.

Finally, we have Bad Words, starring Jason Bateman, Allison Janney, Rachael Harris, Judith Hoag and Beth Grant. Bateman, who also directed the movie, plays a man who lost a spelling bee as a child, believes the loss was unfair and vows to find a loophole, which would allow him to win the competition as an adult and befriends a fellow child opponent along the way. In the trailer, Bateman’s deadpan delivery makes every line he says utterly hilarious whether it’s meant to be or not. This rated R flick is sure to delight Bateman fans and could become a favorite among those moviegoers who enjoy crass situations but the buddy element as Bateman’s character bonds with a challenger, who is a child brings a soft-hearted component to this hysterical comedy. It opens in theaters on Friday, March 28.
