This week’s edition of Trailer Park is filled with talk of trailers for action-packed movies sure to ring in the beginning months of 2014 with a bang! I, Frankenstein retells the legendary tale of the man-made monster with a few added twists and some serious special effects. Yet this time, Frankenstein has his own agenda plus he’s a hottie to boot. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is a prequel looking at the young years of the popular character the late Tom Clancy created. Chris Pine is playing the role once portrayed by four serious Hollywood actors. The Expendables 3 has much the same plot line as the previous two films but Sly has added some notable additions to the cast that might raise a few moviegoers’ eyebrows. But, don’t worry, Sly and his gang are sure to delight moviegoers with three times the explosions and three times the wit from each cast member.
I, Frankensteinhas the renowned man-made monster caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans. Aaron Eckhart plays the title character alongside Bill Nighy, Jai Courtney and Miranda Otto. After viewing the trailer, moviegoers will be blow away at the incredible special effects, stunning CGI work and pulse-pounding plot. There’s no question that Eckhart’s casting might throw some for a loop, but judging from the trailer, Eckhart seems to hold his own against CGI bad guys and hideous monsters. Rated PG-13, the movie opens in theaters on Friday, January 24.
Chris Pine tries his hand at a role previously played by Hollywood heavy hitters such as Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit has Pine playing a young version of Jack Ryan, a character created by the late Tom Clancy. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, based on its trailer, the thrills seem to be non-stop until the last frame of the movie. Pine co-stars with Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Branagh. Ryan stumbles upon a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack and it’s a race against time to stop it, all the while keeping his true identity from his young wife (Knightley.) Fans of Pine in the Star Trek films will undoubtedly flock to go see this movie, which opens in theaters on Friday, January 17.
Finally, so far, just a teaser trailer has been released for The Expendables 3, but it alludes to what a kick*ss action movie it will be as most of the original cast members walk in a line, turn around and then in blood red script each actor’s name is revealed. Sly has added and replaced some key actors in this installment including Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson, Kelsey Grammer and Harrison Ford. The elimination of Bruce Willis from the cast was big news so we’ll have to see if the additions make up for the loss. Fans of the last two films, myself included, will undoubtedly run to see this third film, which opens in theaters on August 14.
