Scarlett Johansson has decided to no longer serve as a goodwill ambassador for Oxfam International.
According to the AssociatedPress, the celebrity said on Wednesday that that she was resigning her Oxfam position because of a "fundamental difference of opinion."
Johansson was set to appear on Superbowl Sunday in a commercial for SodaStream, a company that makes soda machines. Oxfam, an international humanitarian organization known for creating solutions in war torn areas, is currently opposed to trade from Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Oxfam attests that SodaStream is contributing to the "denial of rights of the Palestinian communities that we work to support." Oxfam International said that Johansson's role with SodaStream was incompatible with her role as a goodwill ambassador for the company.
Still at the heart of the matter is the $4 million dollar ad that stirred the controversy. The ad is undergoing changes before Sunday’s big game. According to Variety, an edited version will now air during the Superbowl on Feb. 2.
Scarlett Johansson is a popular film actress who has recently been seen in He’s Just Not That Into You, Hitchcock, and Her.
