Oscar nom rescinded for 'Alone Yet Not Alone'

In a surprising turn, the Academy Award will not go to the song, “Alone Yet Not Alone.” The academy says that it is rescinding the Oscar nomination for the film.

This turn happens after the composer, Bruce Broughton, e-mailed members to make them aware of his submission during the nominations voting period. Broughton told Variety, “I’m devastated. I indulged in the simplest, lamest, grass-roots campaign and it went against me when the song started getting attention. I got taken down by competition that had months of promotion and advertising behind them.”

Broughton had been a former governor and current music branch executive committee member. His recent move wasn’t looked on favorably by the Academy. According to the Associated Press, President Cheryl Boone Isaacs explained the nomination was rescinded due to an appearance of unfair advantage. She also claimed that it looked like the composer used his position to promote his own Oscar submission.”

“Alone Not Yet Alone” is a film about the devastation of war. It stars Kelly Greyson and Natalie Racoosin. Broughton has previously composed music for Last Flight Out, Doughboy, and A Christmas Tree Miracle.

An additional nominee for the category will not be named.
