The MTV Unplugged series has seen notable artists such as Eric Clapton, Aerosmith and Nirvana reimagine some of their greatest hits and covers into a stripped-down, nearly all acoustic set, giving a more intimate feel to the listener and viewer. During Monday’s MTV show Teen Wolf, the one-time all-music cable station announced Miley Cyrus is the next to take on the series with Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged set to air at the end of January.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that the special will “showcase a more intimate side of Cyrus,” and will also include special guests. Although there are no specifics yet, the set list is speculated to include some of the twerking-goddess’ older material, songs of Bangerz, and a couple cover songs as well.
Cyrus may have showed at least one of these stripped-down versions already when she performed and hosted Saturday Night Live when she sang an all-acoustic version of “We Can’t Stop.” A hint at a cover might have been seen when Cyrus stopped by BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge where Direct Lyrics reported the singer took on Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness.”
Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged will air on Wednesday January 29 at 9pm EST/PST.
