The Minnesota Vikings ended their search for a new head coach by hiring Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer to replace the fired Leslie Frazier on Wednesday morning.
Zimmer has been well-known as one of the greatest assistant coaches across the National Football League for making the Bengals consistent performers on defense. Since Zimmer was hired as defensive coordinator in 2008, the Bengals finished in the top 15 in total defense every year.
Since 2011, they finished in the top 10 in total defense, including a third-ranked finish in 2013, according to NFL.
Zimmer was considered for head coaching jobs for the past several years, going through various interviews. He was always passed over though, most likely due to being brutally honest, according to CBSSports.
The Vikings will look to recover from their disappointing 5-10-1 2013 season after making the playoffs in 2012. Zimmer will have his hands full as he aims to turn around the Vikings' 31st-ranked total defense while the Vikings hope to return to the playoffs.
The Cleveland Browns are the only NFL team remaining without a head coach, according to DawgsByNature.
