Heavy metal giants Metallica are set to start working on a new album soon, their first in 6 years, since 2008’s Death Magnetic.
In a recent interview with Billboard guitarist Kirk Hammett stated the band are set to start, "in a couple of weeks. When we start, that's going to be our main priority, and we're pretty excited about it because we've been saying we need to start working on this album, but we've been procrastinating greatly with it.”
Procrastinating, maybe but the thrash pioneers have been plenty busy over the last 6 years, touring endlessly, including their own weekend-long festival, releasing live EPs, a concert DVD Death Magnetic, and recently a concert movie Through The Never, intertwining a short story throughout a live performance. In 2011, they celebrated their 30th anniversary with a 4 night stint at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco, with guests including Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Halford, and even original guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist Ron McGovney.
Hammett is also set to premiere his Fear FestEvil in San Francisco next month, a weekend long tribute to his passion for horror movies.
No exact date for the new album has been set but the album may not even see a release date until 2015.
