M.I.A. and Roc Nation part ways

Rapper M.I.A. announced her departure from Jay-Z's management company, Roc Nation, on New Year's Eve via Twitter.

The Sri Lankan artist broke the news by simply saying, "im leaving @RocNation. Thanks to everyone who supported the M.I.A. #MATANGI LP. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014."

Although the rapper had only been with the company for a year, the partnership proved to be a turbulent one: there were various creative differences and disputes over release dates on projects, as reported by Rolling Stone.

Business Standard reports that the straw that broke the came's back was the issues with the release of her album, Matangi, which was held off for an entire year before it was released in 2013, due to her threats she made to her labelto leak the entire album herself.

In addition to her leaving, she also offered some opportunity to some of her more creative and ambitious fans: "MIA 4 the people by the people. Looking for young people to work in fields of ART production / MUSIC/MERCH / FILM / WEB / MARKETING Snd CV."

Do you think M.I.A. made the right choice?
