Lea Michelle released the video for her single “Cannonball” showing a dark-to-light theme for her anthemic song.
Beginning in a dark room, broken down piano, surrounded by furniture that once was, the Glee star begins singing about her breakdown while just enough light seers in to shine a light on her. As the video goes on in the peaks and valleys of verse and chorus, Michelle’s performance video flashes to scenes of her bringing the light into the not-so-dark room, weaving through a room of hanging lights, and signing in a mirrored hallway.
The song itself is very powerful, and obvious “healing” song from the tragedy that struck the entire Glee foundation, and Michelle the most with her love Cory Monteith’s passing in August 2013. The song’s chorus charges through being able to pick yourself up as Michelle sings And now I will start living today/today, today I close the door/I got this beginning and I will fly/I’ll fly like a cannonball. Although it can be difficult at times to not picture Rachael Berry singing, Michelle’s honesty to her performance shines through.
Co-written by singer/songwriter Sia and Benny Blanco, hitmaker for Maroon 5 and Rihanna, Cannonball” is the first single off of Lea Michele’s upcoming debut album, Louder, due out on March. 4.
