Karen O teams with N.A.S.A for remake of ‘I Shot the Sheriff’

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s frontwoman Karen O and producers Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon, better known as N.A.S.A, teamed up for a remake of the Bob Marley classic “I Shot the Sheriff” for a Sonos commercial.

The electronic enthused remake mixes in reggae with an echoed vocal by Karen O. Toy piano sounds fill in some of the originals guitar and bass lines, while later in the song, a discotheque vibe fills the background with “Ooohs” and “Aaahs” from O complete the feel.

As Rolling Stone noted, this is not the first time Karen O has tackled an iconic song. She and Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor gave an industrialized and dark version of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” for the The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack.

In other Karen O news, she and Spike Jonze were nominated for an Oscar for their song ”Moon Song” from Jonze critically acclaimed movie Her. Her was also nominated for Original Screenplay, Production Design, Original Music Score, and Best Picture.
