One of the favorites on the second season of The Voice, Team Cee Lo’s Jamar Rogers released a live video for his song “High.”
The video for “High” is a fairly straightforward performance video with Rogers singing into a single microphone with a person playing the keyboard into a studio program on a computer. The former Voice semifinalist sings about his past drug addiction to crystal meth at 18, which ultimately lead to his contracting the HIV from substance abuse.
Rogers told The Hollywood Reporter of the song, “It’s just me sharing my heart, my own struggles with drug addiction, and replacing that addiction with love.” He went on to say the song was relatable, whether an addict or not, looking for an escape from life. I just want to let people know that there’s always a way out,” the singer said. “This is a non-cheesy way of saying that.”
Rogers released the single in December and is set to release an EP of original material in early spring. Unlike many of the songs he covered during The Voice which included Bon Jovi, Foreigner, and Lenny Kravitz, Rogers stated his music was more electronic soul with some dance and even dub-step mixed in. With his former coach Cee Lo still very much in contact with him, we look forward to what Jamar Rogers will bring to the table.
