Television personality Ellen DeGeneres, and singer Anita Baker, are celebrating their birthdays today.
Ellen DeGeneres, 56
Comedian, host, and actress Ellen DeGeneres turns 56 today. DeGeneres started out as a stand up comedian, performing at coffee houses before touring worldwide and appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. She appeared in the sitcom Ellen, which ran from 1994 to 1998, and later starred in The Ellen Show from 2001 to 2002.
DeGeners starred in films including Mr. Wrong, EDtv, The Love Letter, and Finding Nemo, which she won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress, the only time a voice performance ever won. DeGeneres has been hosting her talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show since 2003. She won five Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011), four for Outstanding Talk Show Host (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), and three for Outstanding Special Class Writing (2005, 2006, 2007).
DeGeneres was a Season 9 judge on American Idol, and has hosted the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, and Primetime Emmys. She will also host this years Academy Awards on March 2.
Anita Baker, 56
Singer-songwriter Anita Baker turns 56 today. Baker started out in the late 1970s with the group Chapter 8. She released her first solo album, The Songstress in 1983. Her 1986 album, Rapture gave Baker worldwide stardom. The album, which went Platinum, and the single "Sweet Love" earned her her two Grammy Awards in 1987. All-together, Baker has won eight Grammy Awards, has four Platinum Albums, and 2 Gold albums.
Baker released her version of the Tyrese hit "Lately" in 2012. She performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2013 and it was nominated for a Grammy that year. Baker is currently working on an album that does not yet have a release date.
