Carly Rae Jepsen to play Cinderella on Broadway

“Call Me Maybe” hit maker Carly Rae Jepsen steps out of the music studio onto the Broadway stage in Cinderella starting February.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Jepsen will make her Broadway debut in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella starting February 4, replacing Tony Award winning Laura Osnes in the lead role.

Jepsen, who performed in musical theater in high school having roles in Annie, Grease, and The Wiz, stated that "Broadway has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl,” and she looks forward to working with the cast. She also attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts after high school.

The New York Times noted that Jepsen will be joined by Fran Drescher, of The Nanny fame, who will play Cinderella’s evil and cruel stepmother.

This version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella started strong in January 2013 at the Broadway Theater, and even losing some momentum during the summer didn’t stop it from grossing $44.3 million for the year. Jepsen and Drescher are set to debut in the show on February 4 for a twelve week run.

Not staying out of the studio completely, Jespsen is also planning a new album for release later in 2014.
