Pop singer Bruno Mars, 28, is extremely confident about his Super Bowl halftime performance this Sunday. He’s not trying to pull any special tricks or surprises; he just wants people to enjoy the show. He couldn’t be happier that they’ve chosen him to be the performer, considering he’s still a fairly new artist.
The Super Bowl XLVIIII halftime show press conference at Rose Theater – Jazz at Lincoln Center took place today. USA Today reports that Mars kept everyone laughing and was light on specific details for what to expect on Sunday. Reporters asked if he’d give away any details on his performance and Mars wasn’t giving in. “I want the world to watch,” Mars said. “It’s only a couple days away. They can hold tight.”
Super Bowl half time performances have previously been done by some pretty big names, including Beyoncé, Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Bruce Springsteen. As such a young artist, he has quite the reputation to live up to. “I ain’t scared if that’s what you think,” Mars joked to a reporter. “Spectacle-wise? I don’t do trapeze and all that stuff. I hope to get people dancing and smiling. If you ever come to one of my shows, it’s just us up there. We’ve got these songs and our instruments and I’m hoping that’s enough.”
The Washington Post reports that Mars is extremely honored to be asked to perform. “I feel like a new artist,” he said at today’s press conference. “The NFL is such a prestigious stage…and I’m so grateful for that.”
He only started rehearsing two days ago and the cold weather will definitely be an issue, but the singer is confident in his performance. “It’s like the microphone turns into a Popsicle,” he said. “We’re getting some heaters on everything.”
Mars will hit the stage on Sunday during the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos halftime. The game will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. As one of the youngest artists to perform, there’s a lot to look forward to!
