Top 5 Conversations to avoid during the Holidays

There is a lot to be happy for during the holidays. This is a time to rejoice and celebrate. Christmas music is all over the radio and in stores. You catch yourself singing along with the music. The smell of baking cookies fills your house. The tree is decorated and the stockings are hung. The fire keeps us warm and cozy as it's cold outside. Watching ABC family movies are always fun with the kids. The kids finished making their Christmas list and are excited about Christmas Day. They can’t wait for presents and family to come over! Suddenly that’s when the music stops and you realize family is coming over and we need some wine (I mean cheer). Actually we need lots of wine. The music resumes, 5 fights ensuing, 4 arguments start a brawl, 3 critics criticizing, 2 uninvited guests and 1 big crazy family …..Unless you avoid these conversations.

1) Politics – nothing good ever comes from discussing politics. Once, two neighbors who were invited over for a party ended up in a screaming match over political views. It’s best left untouched.

2) Money – We just spent all our money buying gifts and food to celebrate. I want to enjoy it and think about money later. Oh wait, you just received a million dollar bonus. That’s great! I don’t need to know unless you are going to share it with me.

3) Constructive criticism. Criticism is never constructive. I see it one way and you see it another. If you think my food would taste better if I added salt then just add the salt and don’t tell me.

4) Diet – It’s the holidays. I exercise all year so I could splurge and eat all the goodies this time of year. There is no dieting in our house during the holidays.

5) Child rearing - We all know the right way to raise our children and of course if it isn’t our way it’s the wrong way. Good luck with this one! I wouldn’t touch this subject with a ten foot pole!

Drink, Eat and Be Happy People!!! Have a Healthy and Happy Holiday!!!
