This book is kind of a big deal.
This autobiography, written by the fictional character Ron Burgundy of Anchorman, is hilarious to fans for the movie, Will Ferrell or crass comedy. It is a unique type of humor that readers will either love or hate.
Because it is written by a sexist, vain and egotistical character, it is offensive in all of the right places. The way he talks about women is terrible but the readers give him a pass because they understand who Ron Burgundy is. This memoir is not for someone who is easily offended; Burgundy has insensitivity toward everyone. If you aren't a rich, white man, Burgundy is going to say something offensive and stereotypical about you.
That being said, if you are an Anchorman fan, you’ll love this book. It is an extension of the film and something to read after or before you catch out the sequel. It is just the right length and the stories within are just the right amount of over the top. He talks about hunting jackalopes with Bobby Kennedy and discusses his days at Our Lady Queen of Chewbacca High School.
While this book is funny, it does have moments where it runs on too much. While it can use the outrageous humor to its advantage, sometimes too much is a bad thing. When he talks about the politicians and celebrities he has encountered, it is funny for a while then it just gets old and pathetic.
Is this the best book in the whole world? No. Will you enjoy it? Probably. Should you give it a chance? Yes. They’ve done studies- this book work 60% of the time, every time.
