The trailer for Disney’s latest inspirational sports movie, Million Dollar Arm has hit the web and it gives Mad Men star Jon Hamm a chance to test his acting chops with a role that doesn’t require constant drinking and smoking.
In the movie, Hamm plays J.B. Bernstein, a baseball agent down on his luck. But he strikes up a genius idea - go to India to find a pitcher and sign him for a $1 million. At first Bernstein approaches them like typical players, but then his neighbor/love interest (Lake Bell) suggests that they become a family, since these kids he brought to the U.S. are so far from home. It’s an idea that starts to work and they land a tryout with a big league team.
The cast also includes Bill Paxton, Alan Arkin, Life of Pi’s Suraj Sharma and The Daily Show’s Aasif Mandvi. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers are Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray of Mayhem Pictures. The executive producing team includes Joe Roth, Palek Patel, Kevin Halloran, ESPN writer Bill Simmons and Connor Schell.
Million Dollar Arm opens on May 16, 2014. It is based on a true story.
