Neal and his new handler, David, seem to becoming a great pair. Though Neal knows David is watching his every move, and checking is anklet a couple times an hour, they seem to be getting along. They start discussing Davids personal life, and Neal uncovers that he is recently divorced, so the move to the city is a fresh start. Neal suggests getting an apartment, after all, where you live reflects who you are. David says money isn't' an option, which surprises Neal, but tells him to keep it a secret.
As they get into the office, Peter calls Neal in to tell him the Dutchman was released after some evidence was destroyed. They give each other a look, and Peter says they have both come a long way since their first case together. But, Neal, looking around Peter's new office, says its him that has come a long way. Peter reminds him that he is invaluable to their team, but Neal gets distracted by a text telling him to meet in 30 minutes.
Neal walks into a museum and sits on a bench, the Dutchman waiting for him. Neal thinks there deal is done, but the Dutchman says otherwise, telling him to he needs him to steal something. Laughing, Neal says its impossible because he is being tracked right now. The Dutchman shows him a book in a glass case, the Musconi Codex, a book that cannot be touched because it would trigger an alarm, but he tells him he only needs chapter 13.
The Dutchman leaves, and Neal asks a docent for permission to study a book. She asks which, he points to the codex. She lets him know that even though she would love to study it as well, the anonymous donor instructed that it can never be opened as long as it is in the museum.
Neal returns to the office and talks to Peter, who tells him about new perks of his job, including going to the Yankee game in the owners box. Peter says there is another perk, he calls everyone into main office, an announces Clintons promotion.
Neal returns home, asking Mozzie for his help. He suggests finding someone who will do another heist in the museum, so they could piggyback on the crime. Neal can say he is there investigate the crime, since they will be tracking him, but will actually be taking the codex. Mozzie makes up pages to replace the actual codex pages, while discussing Zev, who is the thief they will get to do the other heist. Neal is supposed to have 10 minutes to get the job done.
Neal was going to the museum to do the stakeout and runs into the docent, Rebecca. As he is talking to her, he distracts her and takes her badge. David pulls up in his car, and they go park in their stakeout spot. David says he got Neal a pizza, and was around apartment hunting. David confessions to Neal that his family was in the elevator button business, and he joined the FBI once he realized he was already surrounded by crooks wearing suits.
Someone strolls by, and Neal points him out, carrying a large bag. David goes to follow him, while Neal plans to leave to steal to the codex. As he is about to leave, Peter jumps in the car. Even though Peter and Elizabeth went to the game, he still felt something was missing, so he wanted to go on one last stake out. Neal told Peter that he should leave, its time for both of them to accept their new roles. Peter leaves, and Neal realizes he only has 6 minutes left to do the heist.
Zev shows up at the museum and walks up to the most valuable painting, and starts cutting it. Meanwhile, Neal goes to the codex room and removes the casing, replaces the pages, and puts everything back as it was. Luckily, Mozzie was able to override security and take off the alarms. But all of a sudden the security gates come down from the ceiling, locking Neal and Zev in the museum. Neal is able to break the security panel, takes off his gloves, and hacks the wiring to open the gate.
Neal rushes out to David, they run to where the painting is, but Zev got away. The team goes back to the office, where they tell Neal and David, a workers card was found opening doors right before the crime. They brought in Rebecca for questioning. Neal realizing he might be discovered, tells Rebecca that he was doing intel the whole time.
Peter and Neal go back to the museum, saying this will be their last crime together. They walk to the missing painting, and Peter asks Neal how he would have done it. Neal says he would have found the security box and removed his gloves, hacked the gate and escaped. Neal quickly realizes that he took off his gloves, and they could find his fingerprints if they investigated the rest of the museum. The FBI is able to get Zev's fingerprints, and go arrest him.
Meanwhile, Neal goes to meet the Dutchman. In the background, David is watching them.
Neal walks into the office the next morning, and the entire unit is in the foyer, looking at him. Peter walks up to him, and pulls him away. The scene is cut to Neal and Peter walking up to a crime scene, a body sprawled on the sidewalk. Agent David Seigel is dead.
