Tim Hudson signs with San Francisco Giants

Tim Hudson is going back to the Bay area. He signed a two-year, $23 million contract with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. The pitcher started his career in Oakland.

Hudson joins a rotation that includes All-Star pitchers Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, and Madison Bumgarner. The Giants decided not to re-sign Barry Zito and Ryan Vogelsong, so Hudson will help fill the void in the pitching staff.

Hudson was 8-7 with a 3.97 ERA in 21 starts with the Atlanta Braves this season before injuries sidelined him, according to Global Post.

Hudson is happy to be back in the Bay area.

''I'd like to start out by saying we're really excited to come back to the bay. This is where I started my career,'' Hudson said. ''Making a trip back across the country quite honestly isn't something I anticipated a couple years ago. When the Giants were interested in me, I quickly realized it was going to be a definite possibility.''

Hudson’s major league debut with the Oakland Athletics came in 1999. He went 92-39 in six seasons with them. He was traded to the Braves in December 2004, and played nine seasons. In 2010, he won the NL Comeback Player of the Year after going 17-9 with a 2.83 ERA after having elbow ligament replacement surgery.

Hudson, who is coming off a four-year, $36 million contract, is 205-111 in his 15-year career, according to the Associated Press. That's the third winningest mark for active pitchers with more than 100 decisions. Hudson will pitch to the 2012 NL MVP Buster Posey.
