Jean-Claude Van Damme does comedy in ‘Welcome to the Jungle’

Since the 1980s, Jean-Claude Van Damme has built his career on action films, but come 2014, he will star in his first comedic role as Storm Rothchild in Welcome to the Jungle.

In the film, a group of white collar office workers go on a mandatory leadership wilderness retreat headed by ex-marine Storm. The team building comes to a halt, when their pilot is found dead. Now stuck on a tropical island with survival guide Storm, the civil co-workers quickly deteriorate into Lord of the Flies madness.

They discuss cannibalism, don tribal paint, and sharpen sticks while cast away. Eventually, Chris, played by former The O.C. star Adam Brody, asks the group about leaving the island.

“Anyone who wants to get serious about getting off this island, you come with me,” Brody’s character says. “And the rest of you, you can just keep eating and drinking just having unprotected sex all the time.”

Welcome to the Jungle may be Van Damme’s first funny film, but the supporting cast is full of comedy veterans, including Brody, Rob Huebel (Childrens Hospital), and Kristen Schaal (30 Rock). Megan Boone (The Blacklist) and Dennis Haysbert (The Unit) round out the rest of the cast.

Welcome to the Jungle hits theaters Feb. 7th, but you can see its first trailer below!
